LUSAKA: OLD MAN ITWE IS A SHOWMAN

Leigh Ellis thumbs up
It was my first time in a place that I hadn’t really considered visiting prior.

The City

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA

I was in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia because I’d been told (sold!) that I had a big following there. Otherwise, the city and country may not have been on my radar. I was excited to visit however, as it was my first time in a place that I hadn’t really considered visiting prior.

The Run

I planned on exclusively playing on outdoor courts on my tour, however, I was invited to a regular Monday night run with some of the cities best, older players, which was held on an indoor court. So I made an exception and had a really good run. The standard was high, however so were a lot of the guys which meant the run started out quite energetic and active, however most players became lethargic as the night went on.

The Star

I was absolutely blown away by the star of the night, 55-year-old Itwe. Not only was he a great player and teammate, but he was a true showman too. His passion and enthusiasm for the game was contagious, and he was an even better person. He’s been playing at that same gym for over 30 years and still has the same excitement for it after this long.
